1966 4-Speed Convertible Auction
With less than one day left, current bid is at $23,500 at this writing
It’s incredible that this C2 has been in the same family for 54 years. It was bought by the seller’s grandfather in 1971 and is still owned by a grandson of the owner. The exterior is the ever-popular Nassau Blue with a removable body-color hardtop as well as a white convertible top. The car is being offered at no reserve with quite a few service records and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
Of course, by tomorrow afternoon, the bid will probably be twice the current bid, but as of 7PM Eastern time tonight (Feb 4th) the high bid is $23,500.
The exterior looks pretty tidy and, to the owners credit, he retained the original wheel covers rather than replacing the steel wheels and covers with aftermarket wheels. As someone who values originality, I say kudos to him!
The cabin was refreshed in 1997 with replacement seat foam and white upholstery, coordinated door panels, and blue carpets. It looks to me like the interior is still in pretty nice condition. I’m happy to see that the original four-speed shifter is still present - I always liked the looks of the factory setup. The five-digit odometer shows about 63,000 miles but you’d have to look closely at the service records to try to verify if that’s really the true mileage.
There’s no claim that this is a number-matching car: its replacement 327ci V8 was overhauled and bored .030″ over in 1993, and fitted with replacement pistons.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the final hours of this auction. I think there’s a lot to like about this car - a good model year, the right color, a manual transmission, and it looks pretty original.
