I’m always surprised by the selling price of early C3s compared to previous generation cars. In my opinion, a C2 with a big block, four speed, and side exhaust in the same condition as this car would sell for almost three times as much. It’s ironic that although the early C3s had a different body and interior, but rode on the exact same chassis and offered the same engines as the late C2s. Like most other Corvette fans, I do like the 1963-1967 Corvettes; I just don’t understand the disparity in value between these two generations.
This ‘69 coupe actually didn’t look that bad. I checked the auction participant comments and didn’t see anything alarming or suspicious posted. It was refurbished by a prior owner and is apparently not numbers-matching, but has a replacement big block engine, four-speed manual transmission. and positraction read end. It was for sale in Virginia on behalf of the last owner’s estate with a clean Maryland title. The last owner purchased the car in 2015.
The car was repainted in yellow by a previous owner and it’s not clear what the original color was. It has the correct C3 side exhaust, black vinyl interior, 17″ Foose chrome wheels, power four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, long-tube exhaust headers, MSD ignition components, and an AM/FM cassette stereo.
The center plaque displays information for a 427ci V8 and the five-digit odometer shows 86k miles, although I’m sure that there’s no guarantee that it’s the true original mileage.
The big block engine looks pretty clean with many chrome additions along with an electronic ignition system and upgraded plug wires.
The undercarriage looks surprisingly clean which bodes well for a prospective buyer. Hopefully, the frame is solid and the birdcage is not rusted out.
