Maybe you didn’t have the vision to buy an L88 Corvette in 1969 for around $5500. Well, you would have had a second chance about 30 years later, but it would have cost a whole lot more.
In 1998 you could have bought this Bloomington Gold roadster (with hardtop!) for $85,000 (which is the equivalent of about $130,000. today).
The seller was correct that this car was “not for the meek.” No air conditioning, no radio. And you probably didn’t even want to know about gas mileage.
But as an investment vehicle, this car is tough to beat. The current valuation for one in #3 (Good) condition is around $700,000. And if you had bought and driven this car sparingly, the valuation for one in #2 (Excellent) condition jumps to around $800,000.
So let’s say you invested $85,000 in this Corvette instead of Bank CDs: you would have had a nice appreciation on your investment of about 600%!
