‘70 Convertible: Low-mileage Big-block
This C3 is in excellent condition, but the presentation might not appeal to everyone
This low-mileage big-block C3 convertible was sold new at one of the top dealers in the nation – Harry Mann Chevrolet in Los Angeles. It’s been driven just 30,865 miles and still retains its original numbers-matching LS5 454/390 horsepower engine and its original Monza Red paint. It’s for sale in Santa Barbara, California, and the seller has set an asking price of $48,000.
The seller has apparently made numerous repairs during his ownership and claims that everything broken or worn when he bought this car has since been repaired. That includes a total rebuild of the suspension, original M21 four-speed manual transmission, brakes, and original manifolds (paired with a new exhaust system from collectors to tips).
I’m frankly not impressed with the graphics that have been added to the car’s exterior, but I guess it’s all a matter of taste. The mag centers, front fender vents, and deck vents are all black powder-coated, and “vintage 1975 graphics” have been added to the rear deck.
It has factory and dealer alarms, power steering/brakes/windows, and amazingly, the original convertible top and rear window are still on this car. The frequently temperamental vacuum systems are said to be in perfect working order.
The ad indicates that this Stingray convertible still has the original black leather interior and has been “extremely well maintained.” Included in the sale is lots of documentation, with the Protect-O-Plate, new purchase registration, and other paperwork. Also included are extra original steel wheels and various new parts.
1970 was the final year of the high-compression engines and horsepower numbers started a downward trend the following year. This low-mileage C3 seems to be in very good condition, but the cosmetic modifications might not appeal to purists who value originality. Here is a link to the Craigslist ad:
