‘79 T-top: Originality and Long-term Ownership
This seems like a really nice C3 with an appealing interior/exterior color combination
The ‘79 Corvette looked very much like the previous year's model but in fact incorporated some key changes and improvements in standard features and engine output. For example, previously optional features became standard in 1979, including air conditioning, power windows, and tilt-telescopic steering columns. High-back bucket seats with improved side bolsters also became standard equipment. The engines breathed better due to lower-restriction exhausts and air intakes, and the final drive ratio was lowered to improve responsiveness.
This ‘79 looks very original to me and has a rather unique Dark Blue Metallic exterior that contrasts nicely with both the interior color and the factory aluminum wheels. The paint is described by the second owner as “excellent with no scratches or anything like that.” The asking price of $15,900 seems about market-correct for a C3 of this quality.
Even though the ‘79 C3 was the first Corvette to reach a $10,000 price point, 53,807 cars were sold, a record that remains unbroken to this day and made it the best-selling Corvette of all time. I think this illustrates the perceived value of these cars at that time and is a testament to their desirability. I also believe the appeal of these cars rode on the interest and popularity of the previous year’s 25th Anniversary and Indy Pace Car models.
Although the exterior color isn’t really rare (chosen by 5,670 customers), the Light Beige leather interior looks really nice when paired with the dark color. The interior is claimed to be “in great shape with no rips, stains, or tears,” according to the ad description. Incredibly, this Corvette was a one-owner car until late last year and looks to be in excellent condition inside and out.
I like these cars but I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan. However, this Corvette with only 48,212 miles with a long-term owner is appealing to me. It looks completely original and well cared for, and with the base L48 engine, automatic transmission, and t-tops would be a nice cruiser.
