‘88 Convertible in Phoenix on Craigslist
This 1988 convertible looks extremely clean due to being fastidiously maintained and always garaged and covered. It’s being sold by its third owner and shows 53,725 miles.
Upon the release of the fourth=generation Corvette in 1984, the styling was well-received, but performance was somewhat lacking. But by 1988, the engine had been updated and acceleration and top speed had improved.
There were eleven single-shade paint colors available for the 1988 model year and of course some were more popular than others. This Corvette was has one of the rarer colors, and the hue seems to look different depending on the prevailing light.
Only 3.6% of the original buyers selected the Code 96 Charcoal Metallic exterior paint, so it’s not a color you will see regularly. This fourth-generation Corvette seems to be completely original, which has a lot of value for many potential buyers. The exterior shows no sign of significant flaws or defects and the Black soft-top fits tight. The new-for-1988 17″ alloy wheels also appear flawless.
This Convertible was apparently bought near Boise, Idaho, but spent most of its life in California before finding its way to the Phoenix area, so there shouldn’t be any rust or corrosion problems.
The interior offers not only all of the standard features like AC, power steering and brakes, and electric door locks and windows, but also includes extra-cost leather seats and a tilt/telescopic wheel. The seller recently had the Delco/Bose stereo refurbished to retain the Convertible’s originality. The interior leather and vinyl look excellent with no visible wear.
The engine is the L98 version of the company’s 5.7-liter Tuned-Port Injection V8 that develops 240hp and 340 ft/lbs of torque. This C4 has a four-speed automatic transmission, and the brakes are 11½” four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. The ad claims that this car has a legitimate 53,725 miles on the odometer with a large amount of documentation that seems to verify that claim.
Whoever buys this car will need to replace the tires that are date-coded for 2011. But all in all, this Corvette seems ready to drive with no repairs required. However, I think that considering this three-owner C4 is not a super low-mileage car, the $14,950 asking price might be a tad high, but I really can’t fault the overall condition.
