Wow, did this bring back memories of the 1970 convertible that I bought used in 1971. I had previously owned a 1968 coupe which was the worst Corvette I had ever had, but the ’70 was like a breath of fresh air – it was absolutely problem-free and perfect in every way. Mine was identical to this one except it had the 350 hp engine and didn’t have the side exhaust.
1970 was the last year for the high-compression engines and therefore many people value the 1970 performance cars over later ones. This ’70 convertible is almost entirely original, right down to the factory exterior paint. The side exhaust is the only addition to the way it was delivered to the original owner.
It was offered in a No Reserve eBay auction two years ago (alas, the link is no longer available). The bidding started at $22,000.00 and there was one bid for $22,000, and with no reserve set by the seller, it must have sold. The Buy It Now price was $28,500. What do you think? Would you have liked to buy this nearly original numbers-matching early C3 for $22k?
