Mystery Solved: “2012 C6 Base Coupe Sells for $330,000”
There’s always a backstory to these oddities
We’ve all seen some weirdly overpriced transactions occur at car auctions, but this one had been stunning and unfathomable. I’m always bothered by irrational and illogical things in general, and questionable monetary exchanges in particular. So when this base C6 sold for an astoundingly high price, it really caught my attention.
The actual selling price was $300,000, and would have been $330,000 if a ten percent buyers commission was charged (it’s not clear whether that was the case).
Here’s the backstory to this sale:
Wealthy people didn’t become wealthy by squandering their money or making poor investments. The simple explanation is that this was a charity auction. To their credit, the bidders were donating to a veteran’s cause. (Of course, this “donation” is also a tax write-off for the winning bidder.)
So there you have it. Mystery solved!
