Tribute ‘63 Split-window Coupe Auction (Custom-built from an ‘06 Z06)
You probably either love this car or hate it
This ‘06 Z06 was radically customized as a tribute to the iconic 1963 split window coupe and was completed in 2012. Although the stock 7 liter LS7 engine in the Z06 produced 505 horsepower right from the factory, an Edelbrock E-Force supercharger was installed that boosts the horsepower to 657. Since the build was completed, the car has been driven 3,683 miles. The transmission is the original 6-speed manual from the donor Z06.
All of the signature design cues have been integrated into this custom creation produced by Karl Kustoms in Des Moines, Iowa. The car retains about half of the parts from the original C6, including the chassis, doors, windshield, and drivetrain. The custom color is called Crystal Red Sunglow Metallic, and I think it works well on this design.
The donor Corvette was apparently an Arizona car that hadn’t been wrecked or salvaged and the odometer currently shows 18,391 miles.
Considering that the chassis and interior is almost twenty years old, the undercarriage looks clean, and the interior condition lends credence to the miles showing on the odometer.
As of this writing, the bid is at $100,000 and the reserve has not been yet with three days left in this auction. According to Hemmings, these cars have been selling for between $100,000 and $150,000 over the last few years.
What is your reaction to this custom Corvette? You get the ‘63 split-window vibe with modern underpinnings and interior. Is it the best of both worlds?
